Racial And Ethnic Tensions That Can Affect Our Society

Good Evening Nortcentral High, Have you ever wondered why we discriminate or stereotype other individuals of a particular race, gender, age, or ethnicity? Because we live in world that is rapidly growing and becoming more diverse than ever, it is critical that we gain the knowledge and understanding of other cultures values, worldviews, and way of communication. In this lecture, we will address the racial and ethnic tensions that exist in our school. In addition, there will be a short play demonstrating issues involving discrimination and stereotype. Hopefully this will help to expand your worldviews and perspectives on racism and how it can affect our†¦show more content†¦For the last two weeks here at Northside High School, we have been investigating the school because of the racial tension that has been evolving between some of our Hispanics, African American and Caucasian students. After receiving numerous of calls and e-mails from parents, staff members, and community members about frequent fights and racial graffiti on the school property, our Superintendent Walter Davidson formed an emergency task force. The purpose for this intervention is to solve the racial tension between our students and make our schools safe for every individual despite their race, gender, age, or ethnicity. Although there are some routes that we can take to defuse some of the racial activities and behavior problems that are taking place in our school, the desire to change has to come from within each student. The goal is to promote diversity in our school and to help students, teachers, and our entire staff, regardless of their race, gender, age, or ethnicity to overcome this racial tension. We have interviewed several students of different ethnic groups and they believe that the reason for racial tension evolving in our school and community is because one group may stereotype another group for the way they dress, or wear their hair. They also report that some groups go too far with name calling and making fun of others because of their skin
